Childhood

Thu Jul 26, 2007, 8:26 AM
I was actually not very happy that the last Harry Potter book came out. I mean, yeah, I wanted to find out what happened, obviously, but I started reading Harry Potter when I was just a kid. When I was so young that buying a Harry Potter book meant I had spent all my allowance for that week. When my dad had never seen me so absorbed in a book, so he bought me the second one because I couldn't afford to buy it for myself. When I was still in grade school, when I went to school with boys but was too shy. When life was simpler.

And I kept reading them into high school, which was so different but so similar to Hogwarts. I read Harry Potter when I got my first boyfriend, when I met the best group of friends anyone could ever ask for.

And the last one comes out right after my first year of college. Harry Potter has taken me through part of my childhood and my entire adolescence. I don't care if you're one of those people who's just too damn cool to read Harry Potter - we don't read it because its cool. We read it because we love it, because, to most of us, it means we can go back to being "just a kid", just for a little while.
